The Twenty Eighteen WordPress theme

Twenty Eighteen WordPress theme

Let’s talk about WordPress themes, more specifically, will we be seeing a new default theme called Twenty Eighteen (2018)? Right now we have Twenty Ten, Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen, Sixteen, and the latest default theme called Twenty Seventeen.

Generally what happens each year is a new default theme is released by the WordPress team, usually by someone who dedicates their creative ideas in the form of a new theme. It’s inevitable that we will see the next up and coming default theme for WordPress as we approach 2018, but the question is “how long will it take to see news of this and the first beta release?”

Right now we see the popularity of Twenty Seventeen making a huge hit with everyone. At the time of writing this post, current active installs is over 1 Million! Of course, when I say active installs, this means websites that this theme active and is currently being used. Downloads, on the other hand, seem to be averaging around 3800 per day. Based on what I can see, the 2017 theme is by-far the most popular theme due to the exceptional design and functionality that was brought to use when 2017 was released to the public.

However, we are halfway into 2017 without hardly a peep about a Twenty Eighteen theme. I don’t know about you, but this makes me curious as to what is in store for us. I personally have not seen much of anything about it, so I have decided try and dig deeper into any information that I can find and will update you once I hear more. Of course, if you hear anything, feel free to let me know.

What will a new 2018 default theme mean for ChildThemeStyles.com? Definitely excitement because it means we can explore the design and features while we plan development for new child themes to provide further enhancements.

  1. WordPress should launch a lite and fast theme for twenty eighteen.
    A theme with
    95+ google pagespeed score
    95+ pindom score
    100% responsive
Highest readibility on mac and windows.

    1. Actually, I’ve been waiting and trying to dig into some info about the next default theme for WordPress. The assumption is that it will be called Twenty Eighteen, but this one has been in hiding. It could be that they are rethinking the theme with the Gutenberg editor they are planning to implement for WP version 5.0.

  2. I am using WordPress official theme (Twenty Seventeen) since I started my blog. First I thought it has no good looking and changed but then my site become slower. After it I started using again twenty seventeen theme and till now I am very happy with. I wish the new version (Twenty Eighteen) theme will be more useful for us.

    1. I heard a rumor (just a rumor so far) that there may not be a Twenty Eighteen theme. I think the team over at WordPress are so dug into the development of their new Gutenberg editor/page builder that they may have to hold off on the new default theme.

The new editor is going through a lot of love and hate on the internet because of fears how much damage this new editor (planned for WordPress v5.0) will cause to websites.
