Parent themes coming to Child Theme Styles

Parent themes are required for child themes to function and this site was to focus only on the latter. However, I’ve decided to start designing and adding full parent themes into the mix to give you more choices than just child themes.

Child themes are basically used to make minor to moderate changes to an existing theme, but not meant to completely change the look, layout, and style of a theme to a point that it looks like a different theme. If you plan to make or use a child theme that turns a parent theme into something totally different, then why use a child theme?

Adding new parent themes to offer more options here at Child Theme Styles would give you the opportunity to have a very different looking website. Currently I just offer child themes, but the idea would be to design and build a theme from the foundation of any of the default themes that come with WordPress; creating more styles to choose from.

Creating and offering parent themes built from Twenty Seventeen, Sixteen, Fifteen, and perhaps the earlier versions, could very well give you more flexibility. I’m not sure if I would be able to include the full gamut of features each theme offers, but I definitely could get most of them in.

One thing that this idea could do, is to open the door of a much bigger portfolio of themes for you to choose from. Of course, I would still continue building child themes because what would the purpose be of calling this site “Child Theme Styles?”

This is a very short post, but I wanted to give you something to possibly look forward to, so if you have any suggestions or comments, please let me know below in the comments.

In the meantime, I will give this more thought over the next few days on whether to proceed with designing full parent themes based on the default WordPress themes.
